One way to increase state budgets and overcome revenue challenges, according to Dr. Glenn Boyce, commissioner of higher education in Mississippi, is to grow Mississippi’s economy by encouraging entrepreneurship.
With a shout-out to Innovate Mississippi and the work we do to encourage (and find funding for) startup businesses, Dr. Boyce also mentioned a number of encouraging programs around the state such as Insight Park in Oxford, the University of Mississippi Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Mississippi State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach, as well as the Lott Center and the Southern Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Additionally, he touched on funds and networks such as the the Rebel Ventures Capital Fund and the Bulldog Angel Network that support businesses started and run by students and/or alumni.
“…the full scope of our mission is much larger and encompasses much more, including these entrepreneurship programs that are all designed to help Mississippi businesses succeed and grow Mississippi’s economy,” writes Dr. Boyce.
