2021 is the first year that Make: magazine has published their list of “best maker schools in higher education” for colleges and universities—and Mississippi State University is on it. The “learning-by-doing”-focused magazine teamed with Newsweek to pull together a list of the top 200 higher education institutions that offer maker-focused educational and entrepreneurial opportunities.
MSU’s Idea Shop, located in downtown Starkville and run by a partnership between the School of Human Sciences and MSU Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach, or E-Center, clearly played a big part in getting State get on that list.
“We’ve invested in an innovative maker-driven program and makerspace with the Idea Shop,” said Eric Hill, director of the E-Center. “It’s a place where not only our students and those in the local area can create and hone their skills, but where there’s prototyping and fabrication support for entrepreneurs, and outreach efforts for the community and K-12 education.”
Schools got on the Make: Top 200 list by offering quality coaching for makers, dedicated physical facilities, accessible and supportive maker tools, and a diverse community of active makers.
